Q1: Do I need to connect a cellphone to the unit? NO - The GSM Commanders use internal cellular modules that are built-in at the factory.
Q2: Do I need a SIM card? YES - Just like a cellular phone. The PIN must be OFF. We normally advise users to test a SIMcard in a phone before sticking it into a GSM Commander.
Q3: How many inputs/outputs? The Baby commander as 1 input and 1 output. The other commanders have 2 of each but are expandable upto a maximum of 32 inputs and 32 outputs.
Q4: Can I use the Commander as an alarm? YES - if you configure it that way
Q5: How many numbers can it send to? This depends on your setup. You are not really limited. A practical limit would be maybe 10 recipients.
Q6: What about power failures? The GSM Commander has battery terminals that can be wired to a 12v backup battery. It will normally trickle-charge the battery, and when power fails, it will start getting juice from the battery. The GSM Commander can be configured to notify a user of a power failure (or restore)
Q7: Can it work in areas with bad signal? The GSM Commander has a standard SMA male connector for the GSM antenna. In normal circumstances, our basic antenna (supplied with the retail kit) will suffice. In areas with bad signal it may be necesary to install a more sensitive antenna. We offer a range of antennas that allows our products to work in remote areas with extremely low signal
Q8: Is it better then competitor X? Of course it is :-) Never ask a vacuum cleaner salesman whether he thinks you need a vacuum cleaner. But since you have asked: There are many competing products out there, each with their own advantages and disadvantages, some of which are really good products. We feel our product provides the most value for money. We are not the cheapest, but we do honestly feel we are the best.
9: Why is the GSM Commander so cheap? When compared to PLCs and other devices capable of the level of control that is possible on the GSM Commander, the price does appear low. This is because we have developed the GSM Commander to be as cost effective as possible, without compromising on quality, EVER.
Q10: Why is the GSM Commander more expensive than Competitor X? It is because you are not comparing apples with apples. Look closely at the feature set provided by competitor X. Look beyond the number of inputs and outputs and phone numbers, and look instead of the amount of logic control that is possible. There are other GSM/SMS control devices out there, and some of them are very cheap, but you will find that those products can typically only play a single monophonic tune, while the Commander is a symphony orchestra. Our products are professional and to date we have sold in excess of 3000 units. Despite being more expensive than other products.
